June 17 @ 9:00 pm - 11:00 pm
Free – $136.75Home Grown All-Stars play Soul and Funk Infused Jazz
Before Prince and Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, “The Minneapolis Sound” had Bobby Lyle, whose legendary career included touring with Sly & The Family Stone and Young-Holt Unlimited, being Music Director for George Benson, Anita Baker and Bette Midler, and recording with Pharaoh Sanders. Shortly before Jimi Hendix passed away, he was planning a jazz-rock quartet with Bobby.
Super Producer/multi-instrumentalist Shaun LaBelle also grew up in the Twin Cities. He’s had a top-flight career as a songwriter, producer and studio musician for legendary artists such as Ray Charles, Paula Abdul, Jody Watley and Everette Harp, as well as a solo career with top 40 contemporary jazz hits.
Shaun tapped Bobby Lyle along with Stokely, another Minnesota star who has made his mark as lead singer for Mint Condition as well as a distinguished solo career, for his latest album – which has charted on the Billboard smooth jazz charts and had a song top the UK soul charts for three weeks. For this special Dakota show of home-grown stars, he’s added saxophonist and keyboardist Jason Peterson Delaire, a member of the storied Minnesota Peterson family who has toured nationally and internationally with Michael Bolton, Prince, Alexander O’Neal, Richard Marx and Oleta Adams.
